FOUNDRY TESTIMONIALS

"I teach seminars all over the World and train with many different instructors, and the level and quality of instruction from Noel at the Foundry is top notch.  He provides a great family like atmosphere and all levels of training partners.  I can't wait to go back."
--Chris "The Westside Strangler" Brennan, multiple x UFC, Pride and ADCC World Submission Wrestling Championships competitor

"As a police officer, it is critical that I keep myself in good shape. Training at Foundry has not only benefited me in that regard, but it has helped me walk away from many fights unscathed. I have always been able to use the very technical Jiu Jitsu that I've learned from Foundry to control a suspect in a way that does not hurt the suspect and keeps me safe from any potential attacks. Learning the gentle art under Noel's guidance has also helped me become more patient in competition and in life. I would highly recommend Foundry to anyone looking for a great training atmosphere that fosters mutual supportiveness"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"I have trained with Noel and Team Foundry for 4 years now.  The family atmosphere and solid instruction has allowed me to become a seasoned competitor medaling many times at both the state and national levels.  Without Noel and Missy I would not have made it past my first year.  They welcomed me into their club and their family as is the Foundry way.  Noel’s teaching method is extremely detail oriented and specific making learning technique enjoyable.  If you are a woman looking to train, you will not find a better female training partner than Missy anywhere around!  I am proud to have inherited their Maine school along with Jon and Seth.  The Foundry has a unique environment that combines top-notch instruction and support that you will truly embrace.  The saying is true . . . When you are Foundry, you are family!"  --Bri G

"Even though Foundry is not my first Jiu Jitsu home, Noel and his students always go out of their way to make me feel welcome and a part of their family every time I come to train. Noel is a very knowledgeable instructor who focuses on the fine points of the technique and details of BJJ. Whether it is in class or after class, Noel always takes the time to answer all my questions and break down the details of techniques, which I believe is the most import part of training. I have trained in a number of Jiu Jitsu gyms all over the US and it is great to train with a black belt with no ego, who is always willing to roll with me to teach me things and help me improve my game.  Noel keeps the focus on technique, the art of Jiu Jitsu and making sure that everyone respects and takes care of their training partners. It is always awesome to get back to Maryland to train with Noel and his great group of students."

"I have known Noel and trained with him for over 5 years now.  I am honored to call him my teacher and my friend.  He provides a great atmosphere that focuses on safety and teamwork.  Noel is 100% responsible for where I am today." --Seth H

"I currently hold a black belt in Tang Soo Do karate where I have been training for many years. Last year I was encouraged to add Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to my martial arts experience and started training at the Foundry with Noel. He is an excellent instructor with both the knowledge and technical experience of a highly-skilled black belt as well as an incredible individual who loves to teach. Noel's goal for each and every class is to ensure that his students learn proper technique while also understanding how the practical use of Jiu Jitsu is critical to their everyday lives. He is actively involved in each class, always drilling techniques and sparring with students of all levels. Being one of only a few women training at the Foundry DC and sometimes intimidated, I have always looked to Noel and Missy for inspiration. Without either of them I would not have made it this far. They are both amazing training partners who have created such a family environment where everyone and all skill levels are welcome."  -- Heidi P.

"The foundry sets a unique atmosphere where students not only learn from the instructors, but also support each other in refining technique. Once a new move or skill is learned, we share it with our colleagues. That forces us to learn more moves and countermoves, sharpening our game.  Also, safety is paramount with good smooth controlled technique fostered at every step, minimizing student downtime due to injuries."  --Robert M

"Noel is a knowledgeable BJJ practitioner and highly capable at communicating the nuance of the sport to his students.  The versatility of his teaching style is impressive - he effectively tailors his instruction to best meet the needs of his diverse groups of students; teenagers/adults; novice/advanced; etc.  I believe that Noel's training has enabled me to progress much faster than I would have at other academies." --Aaron M

"The Foundry, headed in Maryland by Noel Danforth, has brought a decent Jiu Jitsu school to the area. Too many of them stress aggressive fighting techniques, and getting the technique down first is neglected. None of that at the Foundry though.  There is also a good mix of ages and people, which means you're not always rolling with someone three times your size. The instructor makes himself very readily available for extra tips, or to go over some moves after class which shows his commitment to his students. I highly recommend the school either for beginners or more advanced students." --PM

"I don't consider myself a fast learner and after training for a year elsewhere, I was ready to throw in the towel and quit.  I heard about a new place and stopped in.  I watched how the classes were taught, the instructors demeanor, and the students skill and attitude.  I was blown away with how the classes were so well run and how detailed the instruction was.  After a year of training and frustration, I had found the perfect academy for me.  In the first month alone, I learned so much and really began to understand the concepts of Jiu Jitsu.  Noel is an amazing instructor!" --MW
